Plastics are indispensable for many industrial sectors and offer great potential when it comes to sustainability. They can conserve resources, save energy and contribute to climate protection. And yet when it comes to plastic, what first comes to mind for many people is piles of garbage and polluted oceans. This is because careless handling and incorrect disposal of plastic products have led to considerable environmental damage in recent decades.
The ‘Your Plastics’ initiative aims to counteract this and is working with politicians and industrial associations to find solutions for conserving resources and avoiding waste. On the website ‘dein-kunststoff.de’, the plastics industry is also calling for an end to throwaway society within the industry itself, towards a carbon-neutral, ecologically sustainable and pollutant-free recycling economy.
To ensure that this succeeds, the experience and expertise of the various companies are bundled together in one place. In an open exchange, the initiative aims to find new, innovative approaches to the issues of raw materials, processing, use and recycling, and to promote a more sustainable use of plastics in the industry.
The initiative is supported by the largest associations of plastics manufacturers, the plastics processing industry and the plastics machinery industry – including the pro-K association. This represents the interests of manufacturers of semi-finished and consumer products. Söhner Kunststofftechnik, as a plastic thermoforming and packaging manufacturer, is a member of it.
